This is the third incarnation of Devour since I launched it in October… I can’t help myself! I promise to keep things more consistent moving forward (as much as possible!), but the longer I do this, the more I learn and the more I want to improve this site, ultimately making it more enjoyable to read and share with you. Look for a new recipe index coming soon, as well as a few other new little surprises.
My third wedding anniversary is coming up this week. This time three years ago, I was fretting about guest favours, seating arrangements, and the weather for our outdoor ceremony. On the big day everything went off without a hitch, except for the uncooperative, cold, rainy weather that forced our ceremony indoors. It all worked out in the end and the sun miraculously burst through the clouds before dinner, allowing us to hang out on the patio well into the evening, and a very good time was had by all.
For our anniversary, we decided to celebrate early and went for an absolutely fantastic dinner at the River Cafe in Calgary last night. I love their food philosophy: the menu changes with the seasons, much of the food is locally sourced, and they even have edible gardens surrounding the restaurant in which they grow herbs, berries and edible flowers. It was top-to-bottom delicious, and the setting could not have been more beautiful. We don’t often eat out, largely due to my love of experimenting in the kitchen, so when we do we like to make it count.
Here’s what’s happened on Devour the past fortnight:
- Red Curry Coconut Pork with Mango is quick, healthy, and unbelievably tasty.
- Alba Salad is full of colourful vegetables, crisp apples, and pine nuts and is tossed with a light apple vinaigrette.
- Oatmeal Peanut Butter Trail Mix Cookies combine elements of my 3 favourite types of cookies in one soft, chewy package.
- Mushroom and Fontina Bread Pudding is hearty and healthy, and a perfect vegetarian option for brunch or dinner.
I’ve got some wonderful recipes to share with you this coming week, so check back soon. I’m heading out to Vancouver to visit my parents on Friday, so I’ll be posting from their place this time next week. I’m so looking forward to some R&R, celebrating Father’s Day with my dad, and lots of shopping with my mom! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
