My name is Sarah. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta Canada, and have lived here my whole life, aside from a couple of years in which I lived in New York City studying musical theatre… long story.
Now I’m back in Calgary, married with a house and a dog, and working as an Intern Architect. That means that I’ve finished my Master of Architecture, but need to go through my internship and write some exams before I can be a bona fide architect. My choice of career can be pretty well summed up by this graphic:
When I’m not cooking, baking, photographing and blogging about it, I also love to read. Novels mainly, although I’m trying to read more non-fiction. Sometimes I’ll use this space to write about what I’m reading, but I won’t let it get in the away of the recipes, I promise! Sometimes a book I’m reading will remind me of a favourite recipe, or inspire me to create a new one.
My food philosophy is simple: I love real food. I shop at farmers’ markets and I make tons of my ingredients from scratch, as I don’t like eating things I can’t pronounce. I avoid convenience foods. I always use real butter; I believe butter is essential to human happiness.
Do I occasionally order greasy takeout or go to pubs for chicken wings and other fried delicacies? Absolutely. I believe in a 90/10 rule: if I eat well 90% of the time, I can indulge 10% of the time and not feel guilty. On Devour, you will find my recipes range from virtuously healthy to indulgently gluttonous and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Everything in moderation.
I am perfectly content having only bread, cheese and wine for dinner. Few things make me happier than dense, rich, New York cheesecake. I also like anything I can dunk into a cup of strong coffee.
Well, that’s quite enough about me. Anything else you’d like to know, just ask.
